25: Down in the valley
we passed through the village of Yatung much to the delight of the children,
and then had to stop at the magistrate’s office to show our permits.
This magistrate was also responsible for transport. Most of our animals
were pretty exhausted by doing double stages and uphill all the way.
Replacing them took some doing and necessitated a good deal of delay
mostly because of the luggage problem. We had arranged to have our interpreter
meet us in Yatung which was his home and fortunately he turned up in
the nick of time. This made smooth the lack of communication and soon
after we were off again.
