38: This and #39 are
really out of place. This encounter happened a day or so earlier before
we reached Phari. This dignified gentleman was a Rimpoche a Precious
One, a pillar of the Tibetan church, who was on tour to inspect various
monasteries. We caught up with him when his group stopped to have lunch.
To my amazement as we watched his servants served him some soup in a
beautiful white jade bowl and cover, and some curry in a handsome green
jade bowl. On the bottom of the green bowl, beautifully carved was the
name of the Kang-His Emperor (1662-1722). This was in the wilds of nowhere.
